Abstract: The behaviour of extremals and minimizers of a variational integral is a central topic in calculus of variations. I will present some results regarding the compactness and size of the sets of extremals of a regularized minimization problem for a variational integral, whose integrand satisfies some strict quasiconvexity assumption. This result relies, among other things, on a convexity result for the associated functional. Some related topics will also be touched upon.

The work is based on a joint work with Jan Kristensen.
