Abstract:
The Yamabe flow is an intrinsic geometric flow which tends to evolve a given Riemannian metric towards a metric of constant scalar curvature within the same conformal class. In 2 dimensions the Yamabe flow and the Ricci flow coincide, and Giesen and Topping proved that a unique "instantaneously complete" flow exists for an (compact or non-compact) initial surface and any given initial metric. I will present similar results for the Yamabe flow on hyperbolic space of arbitrary dimension and explain how the geometric condition of instantaneous completeness allows to obtain estimates on the solution of the parabolic PDE in the non-compact domain.
